Regular fuses or circuit breakers are far too slow to protect SCRs during a short circuit. A semiconductor fuse has an extremely fast melting I²t value that limits the let-through energy before the SCR is damaged. The fuse’s I²t rating must be lower than the SCR’s maximum withstand I²t. PIDMaxwell units are supplied with coordinated fuses – always replace them with identical types.
